A dental emergency includes
Severe toothache or abscess
A broken or chipped tooth causing pain
A knocked-out tooth
A lost filling or crown causing discomfort
Swelling, infection, or uncontrollable bleeding
Knocked-out tooth: time is critical
Hold the tooth by the crown, never the root. If dirty, rinse gently with milk or saline. Try to reinsert it in the socket; if you can’t, keep it moist in milk and get to us immediately. For a child’s baby tooth, do not reinsert it. Call us straight away.
Severe swelling: warning signs
Go to hospital emergency immediately if there is difficulty breathing or swallowing, a fever over 38.5°C, or swelling spreading to the eye or neck.
Don't suffer in pain
Dental emergencies rarely resolve on their own. Call us immediately if you are in pain.
